Cyprus has once again confirmed its goal of becoming a full member of the Schengen Area. Deputy Minister for Migration Affairs Nikolas Ioannidis stated after a meeting in Brussels that the country is technically ready to join Schengen, and the European Commission is expected to carry out the final checks in the near future.

Cyprus’ Schengen accession plan following the meeting:

  1. Technical assessment — by the end of 2025
  2. Political stage and approval — in 2026

Ioannidis noted that the negotiations in Brussels were constructive. In addition to the Schengen topic, the discussion covered the new EU-wide Migration Pact, which the EU plans to implement in June 2026. Cyprus is ready to take an active role in its rollout. The new pact is expected to help EU countries develop a unified approach and avoid a repeat of the chaotic policies of the previous decade.

What Cypriot policymakers are currently focused on:

  1. Negotiations with the European Commission
  2. Preparations for holding the EU Council Presidency in 2026
  3. Work on coordinating and implementing the new Migration Pact, which comes into force in June 2026

What this means for investors:

✔ Strengthening Cyprus’s international position

✔ Increased legislative stability and predictability

✔ Greater trust in the country from the EU

And property owners and applicants for residency can expect an increase in the long-term value of Cypriot real estate.
